Case study · CAMAN Mobile

Michalovce: waste trucks that monitor the city.

CAMAN rides on the city’s waste collection vehicles, on their regular rounds, and records the streets without extra drives.

Two crew members emptying green waste cans into a collection truck, seen from its camera, with the cans, two potholes and two road patches labelled

The challenge

Keeping track of municipal infrastructure and waste collection points across a whole town takes time. It usually means extra inspection drives, or waiting until problems are reported.

The setup

CAMAN runs on the city’s waste collection vehicles, on their regular rounds. Each carries an on-board unit and three cameras; some carry two more cameras for mapping objects along the route. The crew doesn’t operate them.

When the vehicles return, the recordings are transferred to the server in the depot. The analysis there picks out objects such as waste bins, container stands and road damage, ties each to the place and time it was seen, and operators review the results in the CAMAN console.

The project is now growing: more waste collection vehicles, and RTK positioning for more precise locations. The last are being fitted in October 2026.
